Robert and Joy Orton represented the David M. Kennedy Center and the International Center for Law and Religion Studies (ICLRS) as Government Relations specialists at the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, with a term ending in 2017. Bob practiced law in the Utah legal community for over 30 years after graduating from the University of Utah College of Law in 1964. In addition to an active trial practice, Bob devoted significant time to the Utah State Bar. Bob is currently serving as Honorary Consul for the Government of Romania to the State of Utah.

Bob's career has also included dedicated service through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including living in Moscow, Russia while serving as a member of the Europe East Area presidency and living in Bucharest, Romania while serving as President of the Romania Bucharest Mission—living for a total of 7½ years in countries of the former Soviet Union.
